10 Cute Engagement Party Invitation Ideas

You just got engaged and you want to share the good news with your closest friends and family. So what’s the best way to announce that you’re tying the knot? Tips about Sending and Writing Engagement Party Invitations

Traditionally, the bride’s family throws the engagement party. However, nowadays, it’s just as common for the groom’s family, a group of friends, or even the engaged couple to host the party.  The host may be a deciding factor in how informal or formal the party is, which coordinates with your invitations. No matter who hosts the party, there are some engagement party invitation rules you should follow. The most important rule is whoever is invited to the engagement party must be invited to the wedding. Generally, you want to keep engagement parties smaller, around 40 people. However, some cultures treat them as another pre-wedding reception.

Proper Structure of an Engagement Invitation Party Invitation

While each engagement party may differ in formality, simplicity is key. Keep the wording simple and straight to the point.  Each invitation should include these five key points:

  • An introduction or catchy phrase with the names of the engaged couple
  • The date and time of the party
  • The location of the party with the complete address
  • The name of the host. If there are multiple hosts, list all of them, but designate one of them to RSVP to or ask questions.
  • Include how to RSVP. This could be by email or someone’s cell phone number.  You could also include an online RSVP if you send e-invites. Make sure you specify a date you need replies by.

Examples of Invitation Wording

You’ll find examples of casual verses online, and you can adapt them to the theme of your engagement party. The hosts will customize the invitation wording to the formality of the event and the engaged couple.

Addressing Engagement Party Invitations

Addressing engagement party invitations is more casual than the wedding invitations.  They don’t have to be handwritten, and there is no second envelope. If you’re actually sending invitations in the mail, remember to completely write out first and last names and use titles like Doctor when appropriate. If you’re inviting the entire family, it may be easier to write, “The Smith Family, “instead of “Doctor and Mrs. Bill Smith.”  It’s proper etiquette to send the invites two to four weeks before the party.
