Tom Burke, CEO/President of Chimera Golf Club, made the decision at the onset of purchasing the club that their team would actively seek opportunities to give back to the community and especially to our Veterans. Mr. Burke teamed up with the City of Henderson Chamber of Commerce to do so. On October 26, 2015, Chimera Golf Club held the Inaugural Chipping in for Vets Golf Tournament.
The Chipping in for Vets Tournament benefitted two organizations: The Henderson Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Veterans Court in Henderson, Nevada.
The Veterans Court was established in 2009 by the Nevada State Legislature as a specialty court to benefit our Veterans. The court has been adopted by Judge Mark Stevens, who himself is a Veteran. For more information, go to the City of Henderson website.
The Henderson Chamber of Commerce Foundation is a non-profit corporation created to manage and distribute money and resources to aid the community of Henderson. The foundation helps develop the community through events that are solely charitable, scientific or educational. For more information, go to the Henderson Chamber of Commerce website.
The tournament was a scramble with an 8:30 shotgun start. Participants were treated to a beautiful, Southern Nevada fall day. The course was in excellent condition just coming out from over seed. The tournament had a number of sponsors who provided games and prizes, which made it an entertaining experience for everyone. The sponsors for the event included:
• Southern Nevada Golf Association • Dignity Health St Rose Dominican
• Chris Biden, State Farm Insurance • Aston Montelago Village Resort
• Wells Fargo Bank • Everest Collage
• Bank of George • Core Construction
• Liberty Mutual Insurance • Emerald Island Casino
• Mann Mortgage • Storage West Self Storage
• Advanced Exercise Equipment • Laird Noble Sanders
• Exclusive Chefs • Chimera Golf Club
• Aloha HR
The sponsors gave away gifts, food, drinks and held special contests including a longest drive contest on holes 9 and 17. There was a closest to the pin contest on the par 3, fifteenth hole. A beautiful 2016 Toyota Camry was offered up by Findlay Toyota for a hole in one prize.
Competition for the golfers didn’t end when they finished playing golf. While enjoying a delicious lunch, the golfers participated in a raffle and a silent auction at the Bar and Grill. To add to the entertainment, two beautiful models from Premier Showgirls were there to have their pictures taken with the tournament participants.
Golf winners were as follows:
• First place team: Seth Maurer, Barbara Coffee, Kevin Guellette and Patty Charlton
• Second place team: Tommy Labelle, Randy Miller, Randy Mazner and Brandon McIntire
• Closest to the pin hole #3: Michael Dease
• Longest drive hole #9: Jason Glick
• Longest drive hole #17: Kevin Guellette
Unfortunately, the Toyota Camry was driven back to the lot without a new owner.
Thanks to a great golf course, perfect weather, delicious food and drinks, contests and beautiful showgirls, everyone had a blast. There were a lot of winners, but the real winners are the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Veterans Court in Henderson. We are happy to announce $10,000.00 was raised for these two organizations.
Thank you Henderson Chamber of Commerce, Chimera Golf Club, Judge Mark Stevens and all the sponsors who contributed to this tournament.
